An intimate and exclusive, advance book tour, afternoon with Messages from Margaret author Gerry Gavin. Sunday December 11 at Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center in downtown Toms River , NJ from 2 to 5 pm. Cost $10

If there was ever a time that you can visibly see angels all around us, it is the Holiday Season. Many of us have the home tradition of placing an angel on top of the Christmas tree, we see them on greeting cards, carrying the message of “Peace on Earth,” – and even as the celestial choir depicted at churches and town displays – angels are everywhere!

The truth is that angels are always around us, and we actually have the ability not only to talk to them, but to hear them as well. The secret will be revealed right here!

On December 11th, from 2-5 PM, The Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center will welcome Gerry Gavin, Angelic Communicator, and author of the soon to be released Balboa Press book, “Messages from Margaret…For the Year 2012 and Beyond.” The book was relayed to Gerry through the angel Margaret and covers topics from what is going to happen in the year 2012, all the way to what we can do to achieve the life of our dreams!

Gerry began communicating with the angel Margaret over 20 years ago and has performed hundreds of astonishing personal readings for individuals throughout the world…including yours truly, Michele!

He is also a healer that works with a mixture of many new modalities, as well as traditional shamanic techniques, including guided visualization, drumming and trance-work. Those techniques led him to develop the Angels and Shamans workshop that takes participants through a series of exercises designed to allow you to communicate with your personal angels!

On December 11th, Gerry will give us the very first, exclusive glimpse into the new book and will share some key chapters. He will also communicate with Margaret in order to answer questions from the audience and finally we will all participate in one of the exercises from the Angels and Shamans workshop, which will help us through the hectic holiday season.

Gerry is an old friend, and our center is going to be his very first, and the most intimate stop, on the start of his 2012 book tour. Please don’t miss this very special event and come with questions for Margaret and be prepared to be “Touched by an Angel”.

Most hands-on therapists today agree that no therapeutic approach to pain is complete unless body posture is generally improved. Whatever the root of a persons discomfort, special attention must be dedicated to posture-especially the balancing of the pelvis . At Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center each initial consultation and evaluation includes a postural analysis to help us assist in determining the contributing factors to a clients pain.

With an efficient ten-minute hands-on evaluation we can quickly identify gross body asymmetries, such as pelvic tilts, short legs, sacroiliac dysfunctions, scoliosis, facet restrictions, forward head and joint capsule adhesion. Combining a hands-on and visual assessment allows us to immediately tell which muscles are tight and pulling unevenly on the body’s bony framework, and which weak muscles are permitting the asymmetry. Muscle-imbalance and fascial restrictions explain how faulty postural patterns, such as slumped shoulders, forward heads, swaybacks and dowager’s hump can lead to and also increase pain within the body.

Ultimately, for long-lasting relief of chronic pain, Myofascial Release works to:

balance the head on the neck

balance the neck on the shoulders

balance the shoulder girdle on the rib cage

balance the pelvis on the femurs

restore overall body function

restoring pain-free movement

Recent studies have confirmed a noticeable reduction in noxious neural input entering the spinal cord and brain when the postural goals listed above are met. In 1979, biomechanical researcher J. Gordon Zink, D.O., coined the term “common compensatory patterns” to describe routinely found postural patterns in the neuromyofascial-skeletal system. His studies were the first to validate how structure and function play a dual role in posturally initiated pain syndromes. Eventually, he concluded that postural muscle stress leads to chronic, recurrent central nervous system irritation. This is why it is so important to relieve fascial restrictions to restore proper muscle balance and restore proper posture.

Postural muscles are structurally designed to resist fatigue and function in the presence of prolonged gravitational exposure. If their capacity to resist stress is lost due to stress, surgery, illness and fascial restrictions, the postural muscles become irritable, tight and shortened. Fortunately, as balance and function are re-established in distorted myofascial structures, hyperactivity in agitated joint and muscle receptors rapidly dissipates and pain is alleviated.

Call Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center at 732 223-9335 for more information on how we can help you restore proper posture and rid your body of pain.

This is an individualized (small group) movement class to be given by Michele Ruhmann of Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center . This class incorporates; flexibility, core strength, balance, proprioception, strengthening postures, breathing, Myofascial elongation techniques and self-unwinding on a mat and with props. This approach is unique and encompasses your body as a whole with emphasis on personal goals. Fascial stretching is different than traditional stretching because the stretch is held 90 to 120 seconds compared to 30 seconds to allow for a longer lasting benefit,we use the REACH, TELESCOPE and ELONGATE approach to engage the fascial barrier and the third essential difference is the need to be consciously present and grounded to increase your body awareness. This will complement your Myofascial Release treatments very nicely.

Benefits/Positive changes include:

Increased flexibility, balance and coordination

Increase or maintain fascial freedom of restrictions

Increase muscle performance

Increase whole body endurance

Increase circulation, cardiac, pulmonary and metabolic health and boost immune system

Increase body awareness and proprioception

Change body composition

Attain improved sense of well being, posture and self-image

Positively improve function and quality of life ie: activities of daily living / work / play

” The average American, softened by modern technology, which increasingly limits his or her physical activity, must think in terms of getting more exercise. It is important for total physical and mental well-being.”

SELF MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (SMR) – with the Foam Roller

Using the foam roller a few minutes every day is something I highly recommend for everyone, especially those who are inflexible , have chronic pain, or have injuries. Self-Myofascial Release (SMR) is one of the most effective, inexpensive and convenient methods of reducing adhesions and scar tissue. Although it can be less than comfortable at times, the benefits definitely outweigh the discomfort .

Round foam rollers (6” diameter x 3’ long) can be used to release trigger points and break up tight, tangled fascia. This is a very therapeutic technique that I encourage you to perform daily to break up connective tissue tension. Consistency is the key.

Muscle and fascia make up the myofascia system. Myo = muscle and Fascia = a strong, fibrous connective tissue encasing your muscles and organs. If you think of sausage, the meat is the muscle and the casing of the sausage is the fascia. Oftentimes, it is the three dimensional web of fascia that has these tangled, trigger points that need to be released for optimal functioning. Injury, inactivity, short/tight muscles and lack of stretching cause the muscle and fascia to become stuck together.

During SMR, pressure is applied to a muscle using the foam roller causing activation of the Golgi Tendon Organ (GTO), which in turn signals muscle spindles to release and relax the muscle being worked on. The GTO is extremely sensitive to changes of tension in the muscle.

SMR also breaks down scar tissue and releases muscle fascia as you work your way from one end of the muscle to the other.

SMR is an effective preventative, rehab and recovery tool. A 15 minute SMR progression at the beginning and especially at the end of your day or workout session can prevent many injuries and relieve stress and tension throughout the entire body.

SMR can release muscle and joint pain.

SMR is an extremely effective rehab technique for ITB syndrome and sciatica.

Daily, consistent use helps to increase flexibility.

Here are some guidelines for SMR with the foam roller:

Find a tender spot (trigger point) on an area that is tight or has reduced range of motion.

The foam roller technique can be used on every area of the body to increase flexibility, function, performance, and reduce injuries. I highly recommend using the foam roller every day. The more often you roll, the better. If time is a factor, even 2 or 3 weekly sessions will lead to great improvements.

Magnesium is the second-most abundant element in human cells and the fourth-most important positively charged ion in the body, so it’s little wonder that this low-profile mineral is also vital to good health and wellbeing. Magnesium is a major component of Epsom salt and also helps to regulate the activity of more than 325 enzymes and performs a vital role in orchestrating many bodily functions, from muscle control and electrical impulses to energy production and the elimination of harmful toxins. This is why after a treatment session at Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center, we often recommend that our clients soak in an epsom salt bath at home.
Studies show that magnesium is an electrolyte which helps to ensure proper muscle, nerve and enzyme function and is critical for the proper use of calcium in cells. Another benefit is that it can help prevent heart disease and strokes by lowering blood pressure, protecting the elasticity of arteries, preventing blood clots, and reducing the risk of sudden heart attack deaths. Magnesium may also reduce inflammation and relieve pain, making it beneficial in the treatment of sore muscles, bronchial asthma, migraine headaches and fibromyalgia.
Although magnesium can be absorbed through the digestive tract, many foods, drugs and medical conditions can interfere with the effectiveness of this delivery method. Therefore, SOAKING in an Epsom salts is one of the most effective means of making the magnesium your body needs readily available.
Epsom salt also delivers SULFATES, which medical research indicates are needed for the formation of brain tissue, joint proteins and the mucin proteins that line the wall of the digestive tract. Studies show that sulfates also stimulate the pancreas to generate digestive enzymes and help to detoxify the body’s residue of medicines and environmental contaminants. Studies indicate that sulfates are difficult to absorb from food, but are readily absorbed through the skin.

So take a moment today to do something good for yourself. Call Jersey Shore Myofascial Release Center today to book your next appointment to open up your body and free those restrictions and don’t forget to pick up some epsom salts on the way home for a relaxing, detoxifying bath.
